Created by Italy-based digital media studio fuse*, Dökk is a journey through the subconscious. The performance takes audiences into an endless universe, into a mandala-like experience. Dökk evokes the random, unforeseeable experience that is life itself. It looks at the cycle of life as a search for balance between light and darkness. (Dökk is the Icelandic word for “darkness”.)
Dökk uses original software to synthesize real-time, crowdsourced data from four sources: the show’s score, the movement of the performer, her heartbeat, and the emotional analysis of what people worldwide are posting at that moment on social media. Thus, each performance is an experience that will not be replicated. The innovative technology, combined with multiple projection layers and the moving body of the performer, create a unique experience for the audience. The production design delivers a stunning 3D illusion, ultimately fed by the collection of data.
fuse* is a studio and production company at the intersection of art and science, exploring the expressive potential of emerging digital technologies. Since the studio's birth in 2007, its research has focused primarily on producing installations and live-media performances capable of profound audience engagement, amplifying the emotional impact of the narration.
The studio's ongoing evolution allows for an ever-increasing holistic approach to the creation of new projects. With a culture that places high value on pure experimentation, the goal is to create works that inspire, push the limits and seek out new interplay between light, space, sound, and movement.
fuse* attributes its activity and development to its community and actively supports, promotes, and develops projects dedicated to propagating culture and knowledge. For this purpose, it has co-produced NODE, an electronic music and digital arts festival, since 2016.
